Virgin-Prepaid-Debit-CardYou are either a fan or a hater of Virgin products. Either way, the Virgin prepaid debit card is one of the best prepaid mastercard offers online today. The virgin prepaid card is absolutely ideal for teens and those of you who are too young for a credit card or simply don’t want one. A prepaid card like the Virgin card is the rare card that offers you not only the ability to purchase online with your card, but also offers you a rewards program. You get money back!Virgin are really putting a push on their rewards program offering you free mobile phone credit for using your card to buy your stuff online and being the only prepaid debit card that offers you a no-fee top up service from most physical locations.

The Virgin prepaid mastercard is exactly like phone credit. You top up at you local post office or newsagent and you can only use the credit that’s on your card. This way, you don’t get into debt and you don’t have to ask someone else can you use their credit card!

So how does it work?

  • The Virgin prepaid card is simple. You make a ONE TIME payment to buy the Virgin Prepaid MasterCard online for 9 Pounds.
  • You top up (just like a mobile) at a shop or post office.
  • When you make a purchase online like booking when you booka flight, holiday or if you are buying something off ebay, the balance on your card is deducted. Simple.

What are the pros?

  • No bill or debt for you, it’s pay as you go.
  • More locations for you to top up throughout the UK than any other card (Literally any newsagent).
  • Only charges you 2% of any transaction (That’s how they make their money).
  • Variety of colours available to suit young adults.
  • 100% approval rate, if you are over 17, you can have this card.
  • You don’t need a bank account.

What are the cons?

  • The card is almost £10 to buy at first. While all prepaid cards cost this, it’s something we would like to see done away with.
  • The card takes an average of 4 days to get posted out to you.

  1. You pretty much summed it up Hilary, this card is absolutely fantastic. I was using a crappy prepaid maestro card for years. Every bank issues them but there was nowhere that accepted them online. The Virgin prepaid debit card was a little confusing at first (I’m not the youngest pear on the tree and technology is not really my thing) but I managed to figure it out, it works just like a mobile phone. Top it up and use it.

I would highly recommend this card and I have purchased one for both my kids so they can do… well, whatever they do. Best thing is that I don’t get stuck with the bill at the end of the month because there is not bill!

  2. Took me a week to get my card! I am only 18 and I cannot get a credit card because I am a student. This card is perfect for when I want to buy stuff online AND when I want to take money out of the ATM. It doesn’t work in some machines in London though. Don’t know why.

I hate the way if I buy something for £100 it takes £2 but it’s better than the other cards taking £5!!!!!! Thing is that I get £10 free phone credit if I spend that amount so it’s all cool.

I’d give it an 8 out of 10 because you can only spend £300 at a time and it took a week to get my card. Otherwise, I’m happy.

  3. We actually use the virgin pay as you go debit card for our business. We do a lot of purchases online and resell them here in London in our local store. We prefer to use the Virgin debit card because we know exactly how much we are spending and do not get tempted to buy more than we have enough for. (I get free phone credit back off them too!).

The rates are much cheaper than a credit card and much safer too.

PS: I have absolutely no affiliation with Virgin, I just think their card is great.

  4. This is an absolutely fantastic alternative to a credit card. I had to get a refund for an ebay order once and the money was added directly back onto my card after 2 days. Most other prepaid debit cards don’t do this. Another happy customer here.

  5. Hi. I use my card only for itunes. I am under 18 and the virgin prepaid card lets me buy stuff off itunes without me having to use someone elses card.
